How to make Blueberry bliss smoothie

Smoothies are all about finding that right ratio of fruit to liquid. That’s why my Blueberry bliss tropical smoothie recipe has 1 cup of milk to 2 cups of frozen fruit. You’ll also see that I don’t use ice, because it dilutes the flavor and defeats the purpose of using frozen fruit!
Everyone has their own preference. Some people drink smoothies with straws and others like them thick enough to eat with a spoon. So, start with 1 cup of milk and add more as you wish.

Step 1: Put together all the ingredients

  • 1 cup fresh blueberries
  • 2 cups frozen fruit (1 banana, 1 cup strawberries)
  • 1 cup milk (oat milk, almond milk, coconut milk or water)
  • agave syrup (optional).

Step 2: Blend

Put all of your ingredients to your blender. Blend on high untill smooth. Remember that you can always add more milk, but you can’t take it away!
Depending on how powerful your blender and how frozen your fruit is, you may need to stop your blender and scrape the sides with a spatula.

Step 3: Serve

Once you’ve got your Blueberry Bliss Tropical Smoothie recipe to the desired consistency, it’s time to serve. There are two choices: cup or bowl. Smoothie bowls are on trend right now, but you can always keep it classic with a cup or glass. Garnish with mint leaves, berries, or any of your favorite fruit.

Recipe variations

  • Add your favorite fruits: kiwi, lime, mango, pineapple, pomegranates, avocado.
  • Add a handful of your favorite greens: kale or spinach.
  • Add some seeds: chia seeds, ground flax seeds.
  • Berries: acai, cranberries.
  • You can also add other ingredients such as almonds, coconut, chocolate, ginger, whole-grain oats, orange juice, peanut butter, yogurt.

Supplements:

You can add supplements such as: collagen, pea protein powder, probiotics, multivitamins, Vitamin B12, whey protein powder.

How to store Blueberry bliss tropical smoothie

Blueberry bliss smoothie will keep in the fridge for a few days. Soon after, the taste and color will change. You can store blueberry bliss tropical smoothie or its ingredients in the freezer for up to 3 months. It is the ideal for prepping ahead of time and enjoying whenever you want.

Pro tips

  • You gotta have a good blender to make a good frozen fruit smoothie. If not, you’ll get frustrated with frozen fruit stuck in the blades and the process will surely take more than one minutes. So, do yourself a favor by purchasing a decent blender if you don’t have a good one at the moment. Here are my blender recommendations.
  • Smoothies should have texture, so use something that thickens the mix and makes it creamy. Fruits like bananas, mangoes, peaches and apricots will make a thick and creamy consistency. A good alternative is to use a tablespoon or two of soaked flax or chia seeds, which will add omegas to your smoothie.
  • Make sure you don’t add too much sugar. Fruits are naturally sweet. If your smoothie ends up being too sweet, use lemon or lime juice to balance the taste. Usually I skip sweeteners.
  • Follow the golden rule: less is more. We know that it’s tempting to add all the things to your blender, but resist tossing in too many ingredients. Choose three main ingredients. In otherwise, the flavor might get strange and not that tasty.
  • Make sure you don’t add too many ice cubes at a time.
  • You can adjust the consistency using milk or water. If you want a more liquid cocktail, add more milk/water. If you want it thicker add less milk.
  • If you want to add ice cubes, use just a small amount otherwise the smoothie may end up too watered down.

Frequently asked questions

Do you put liquid first or last in a smoothie?

Place your soft, high-moisture foods in the blender jar first (liquids, fresh fruits and veggies, etc.). Place your hard, solid foods last (ice, frozen fruits and veggies, nuts, etc.).

What ingredient goes first in a smoothie?

Liquids. No matter what type of liquid you’re using — milk, juice, coconut water, tea, or coffee — this should be the first ingredient you add to the blender.

How long do I blend my smoothie for?

Set your timer for one to two minutes with a regular blender, or one minute if you’re using a Vitamix. Don’t rush it. Smoothies are quick, but blending for three seconds isn’t enough. You want to blend everything really well so your smoothie is lump-free.
