Today’s recipe has to be the family’s new favorite, and I cannot wait to share it with you! I’m about to give you all the details on how to make this tropical smoothie peanut butter cup at home.
My recipe includes organic peanut butter, oat milk, quality chocolate/or nutella, fresh dates and frozen bananas. My smoothie is cheaper and healthier than the original recipe. Plus you won’t have to stand in line and wait.

All you need to do is put all ingredients in your blender. I’m sure you will love it. Peanut butter cup smoothie is rich, thick and delicious. It is also healthy if you are not using too many dates or other sweeteners. If you want to make it even healthier, you can use sugar-free organic cocoa powder instead of chocolate. But, if you dream about the tastiest smoothie in town, blend in melted milk chocolate or Nutella. Enjoy cold. Let’s get to the details.

Why you will love this Peanut butter cup tropical smoothie

  • It’s thick, creamy and delicious.
  • It is nutritious.
  • You won’t waste your time in a traffic and standing in a line.
  • It’s cheaper to make it at home.
  • You can adjust it to your taste and diet when making at home.

Tropical smoothie peanut butter cup Ingredients and Substitutions

Milk – choose the one you have on hand and use it daily. I use oatmilk. Other plant-based milks work fine as well as regular milk.

Cocoa powder. To give chocolate flavor, choose one of these three options: cacao powder. Blend in quality chocolate or Nutella. The quickest way is to add Nutella or cacao powder. (If I add chocolate, will it blend in well? It will blend in, but it’ll take longer and the smoothie’s consistency won’t be that smooth.)
Sweeteners. If you use cacao powder, just add a few fresh seedless dates. Adjust to your taste. You can add honey, cane sugar, agave or maple syrup. If you are using chocolate or Nutella, make sure you are not using extra sweeteners as chocolate and Nutella are sweet already.

Organic Peanut butter. Emulsified peanut butter has more filler ingredients. The natural version is better and healthier. Just a few spoonfuls are enough to bring out this smoothie’s yummy and salty contrast.
Bananas add creaminess to your smoothie. Use ripe bananas that have been peeled, sliced and frozen for at least 2 hours prior to making the smoothie. Freezing bananas helps improve the texture. Keep in mind that bananas tend to oxidise and change flavor. The best is to enjoy this smoothie fresh. If you don’t have a banana on hand, don’t worry, you will get the chocolate-peanut-butter milkshake. Give it a try.

How to make peanut butter cup smoothie

1. Put the milk, frozen bananas, peanut butter, dates, and cacao powder/chocolate/Nutella in a blender.
2. Blend for a minute.
3. Taste and add sweeteners to your taste. Add more cacao powder if needed and blend for another 30 seconds.
4. Turn the blender off and serve in a smoothie glass.

Recipe variations

Want to change it up? There are so many ways to do that:
Nut butter. If you have a peanut allergy, just use another nut butter. Hazelnut butter’s taste is incredibly pleasant.
If you are looking for a dairy-free alternative, use plant-based milk.
Smoothie bowl. Reduce the liquid by half. Add granola, your favorite nuts and seeds or fresh fruit.
Ice cream. Use less milk. Pour your smoothie into ice-cream jars or molds. You can stir in extra caramel, Nutella, pecan nuts, walnuts etc. Top with milk chocolate. Freeze and enjoy.
Tiramisu. Place Italian Savoiardi fingers in the dessert jar. Pour your smoothie on top(skip the banana). Add nuts, sprinkle cocoa powder and place to the fridge for about and hour or two.

Storage instructions

Refrigerator. Peanut butter cup tropical smoothie will keep in the fridge for a few days. Soon after, the taste and color will change.
Freezer. You can store peanut butter cup smoothie in the freezer for up to 3 months. Pour the smoothie into an ice cube tray and freeze it. You can freeze it for up to 3 months. When you’re ready to drink, take out the ice cubes, put them in a bowl and leave to hang out for about 15 minutes or so, to thaw. Then toss all the cubes in a blender and blend until smooth. It is the ideal for prepping ahead of time and enjoying whenever you want.

Recipe tips

Here are my secrets for the creamiest and best tropical smoothie peanut butter cup recipe:

  • You can adjust the thickness by adding milk. Reduce the milk if you want a thicker texture.
  • Serve with cookies, whipped cream. Sprinkle cocoa powder on top.
  • In case you wish to add ice cubes, make sure you use only a few cubes otherwise the smoothie may end up too watered down. Don’t add too many ice cubes at a time.
  • A powerful blender blends everything in 15 seconds. Here are my blender recommendations.
